A join code lets students join your class in seconds. Share a code, link or QR code, and students join straight away. You don't need to type in their emails or wait for them to accept an invite.
Use a join code at the start of a lesson so the whole class is ready to learn together, or when a new student arrives mid-term.
Join codes are turned off by default. If you can't see the Invite by code button, ask your school admin to turn on join codes for your school.
Create a join code
Go to Classes and open the class you want students to join.
Select the Students tab.
Click Invite by code.
3. Click Create join code.
Atomi creates a code for your class. You'll see a 6-character code, a QR code and a short join link.
Share the code with your students
Pick whatever suits your classroom:
Show it on the board. Click Show on the board to put the code and QR code on your projector.
Click Copy link and paste it into your class chat, LMS or email.
Read the code out. Codes only use letters and numbers that are easy to tell apart, so students won't mix up 0 and O or 1 and I.
What your students do
Students scan the QR code, open the link or enter the code at learn.getatomi.com/join.
Before joining, they'll see your class and school name so they can check they're in the right place. What happens next depends on whether they already have an Atomi account.
If the student… | What happens |
Is new to Atomi | They enter their first name, last name, email and create a password (no password is prompted if your school uses single sign-on). Atomi creates their account, adds them to your class and logs them in. |
Has an account and is logged in | They're added to your class straight away. |
Has an account but isn't logged in | They log in, then they're added to your class. |
Once they've joined, students land in your class.
See who has joined
Students who join appear in your class on the Students tab.
Check the list for typos in names. It's also a quick way to spot anyone who shouldn't be there.
Turn off a join code
Join codes last for one hour. To turn one off sooner (say, once everyone in the room has joined), click Turn off in the Join code pop-up.
Once a code is off or has expired, it stops working. You can create a new one whenever you need it.
Good to know
Join codes are for students only. To add another teacher, see adding teachers to a class.
Each code allows up to 100 joins. For a bigger group, create another code.
Students set a password when they join so they can log back in next time. If your school uses single sign-on, they skip this step and log in with their school account next time.
If your school's classes sync from another system (like your student information system), students you add with a join code might be removed the next time that class syncs. Check with your school admin before you use join codes in a synced class.
You can still invite students by email. See adding students to a class or bulk adding students to a class.
