Push to class is the quickest way to gather your students for a specific lesson or quiz in real time. Whether you want to start a synchronous lesson, redirect students to new content or bring everyone together for a shared learning experience, push to class keeps your whole class aligned and engaged.

Push to class sends an instant notification to your students, guiding them to join you on the lesson you're currently viewing. With live presence indicators and clear visibility of who's joined, it's a powerful tool for maintaining classroom flow and ensuring no student gets left behind.

How to use push to class

Go to the lesson you want your students to join.

  1. Click the Push to class button.

  2. Click Push now to send the notification to your class.

Students will have 30 seconds to go to the lesson or open it in a new tab. After that time, they will be automatically redirected.

Monitor which students are viewing the lesson

Once you've pushed to class, you'll see:

  1. Presence indicator: Real-time status showing how many students are actively in the lesson

  2. Student monitor: A breakdown of which students are or are not in the lesson.

The presence indicator will appear even if you haven’t pushed a lesson or quiz to your class, so you’ll always see how many students are actively on a lesson.

Click the presence indicator for a detailed breakdown of students who are actively in the lesson.

Student experience

When you push to class, your students will receive an instant notification that you're directing them to a new lesson.

Students can choose to:

  • Go now - Navigate directly to the lesson, replacing their current page

  • Open in new tab - Open the lesson in a new tab while keeping their current work accessible

The alert will show students which lesson you're directing them to and remains visible until they take action or 30 seconds have passed.

Once the countdown has lapsed, students will be automatically taken to the lesson.

Tips for using push to class effectively

Perfect for real-time teaching moments:

  • Starting a synchronous lesson when students are working independently

  • Redirecting the class when you want to address a common question or concept

  • Moving everyone to a new activity or challenge together

Keep track of participation: Use the live presence indicators to see who might need additional support or reminders to join the lesson.

FAQs

Q: What happens if I push to class and my students are in the middle of a lesson or quiz?

A: Students can choose to open in a new tab, and they won't lose their current progress. Atomi also saves partial progress on quizzes and interactive lessons.

Q: What happens if a student is not logged into Atomi?

A: Students not logged in will not receive a push-to-class notification. Once they are logged in, you can trigger another push-to-class request; students who are already in the lesson will not be impacted.

That's it. Push to class makes it simple to keep your entire class synchronised and engaged, whether you're running a blended learning session or need to gather everyone for instruction quickly.
